Women’s Long Distance Running Shoes Reviews

Reebok Women’s Endless Road Running Shoe at a Glance:

  • Uppers: Mesh/Fabric
  • Sizes: 5-12
  • Colors: 4
  • Features: Very lightweight and airy, injected foam EVA midsole

Reebok is easily one of the most recognizable footwear brands in the world, particularly with athletes.

Time and time again and over the years they’ve proven that they consistently deliver quality, comfort, and top-notch performance.

Their Endless Road Shoes are perfect for long-distance use due to how lightweight and airy they feel on the feet, even after hours of running!

Coming in just 4 different colors, you don’t have a whole lot to choose from, but each option will go well with any workout outfit. Guava Punch/Neon Red, Grey/Teal, Crushed Cobalt/Sky Blue, and Black/True Grey all look very high-quality to boot.

Made of a soft-yet-durable mesh, you never have to worry about your feet getting too hot and muggy. As it’s a seamless design, you don’t have to deal with them cutting into your feet, either.

Airflow is plentiful, yet the mesh offers enough protection from rocks and abrasion that wearing it outdoors is no issue.

To keep your feet comfy, you’ll find an ultra-cushy, full-foot MemoryTech foam midsole offering excellent response and energy transfer to keep you going further.

Moreover, the midsole includes injection-molded EVA foam which keeps things light while doubling down on cushioning.

Keep in mind that the Endless Road Shoes are ideal for those with high arches and regular to thin feet. If you have wider feet, you may find that it’s a bit too tight around the midfoot and the toe box.

Brooks Women’s Glycerin Running Shoe at a Glance:

  • Uppers: Mesh/Fabric
  • Sizes: 5-12
  • Colors: 5
  • Features: LOFT cushioning, super soft foot bed

While the Brooks Women’s Glycerin 16 Road Running Shoe is notable for many positive features, what stands out most is the supreme level of comfort it offers.

Running, and particularly long-distance forms of it, absolutely demand comfort. If not, you’re not going to be able to perform your best and reach the goals you’ve set out for yourself quite as quickly and we don’t want that!

The plush pair provide an incredibly indulgent ride that includes a great amount of cushioning and support, even when you’ve run out of juice.

While words don’t do them justice, we found ourselves hard-pressed to find a pair that could compare in this regard.

The only downside to the signature LOFT cushioning is that it does weigh the shoe down ever so slightly, which for some runners isn’t an issue. What it adds in weight, it makes up for in responsiveness and durability.

Moving on up, the Double Jacquard Mesh is what the upper is comprised of, for great breathability, flexibility, and structure.

Furthering the level of luxury, the internal stretch booty covers the foot, moving and expanding just as they do so the fit is perfect without the restraint. It’s no wonder why they’re classified as some of the best long distance running shoes!

Saucony Women's VERSAFOAM Cohesion 12 Road Running Shoe

Saucony VERSAFOAM Cohesion 12 Road Running Shoe at a Glance:

  • Uppers: Textile/Synthetic
  • Sizes: 5-12 Wide
  • Colors: 12
  • Features: Versa Foam Cushioning, Budget Friendly

Are you on the hunt for some of the best women’s long distance running shoes but don’t know where to look?

Then check out the Saucony Women’s VERSAFOAM Cohesion 12 Road Running Shoe. Despite being so incredibly affordable, they are high performers in just about every way!

Coming in 12 different colors, you have quite a few options to select between. Schemes like Black/Pink, White/Black/Teal, and Black/Black all look like an 80’s classic design and are sure to jive with your existing wardrobe.

However, they’re not flashy by any means and purely for running. Using a level of VERSAFOAM cushioning on both the top and the midsole, it’s more than enough cushioning for most runners.

It’s soft and comfortable, though we did feel it was slightly lacking in the responsiveness department.

The outsole is comprised of a long-lasting rubber that offers just enough flex to keep you moving naturally in an array of environments.

The upper is made with textile/synthetic materials which is relatively breathable and offers a solid amount of structure and protection.

We can’t say that it’s the best shoe ever, though for the extremely low price tag it comes with, it’s an impressive ride.

ASICS Women’s GEL-Venture 5 Running Shoe at a Glance:

  • Uppers: Synthetic
  • Sizes: 6 – 11
  • Colors: 8
  • Features: GEL Cushioning System, Foam Sockliner

While the majority of long distance running shoes are made more towards road use, not everyone prefers those kinds of surfaces. If you’re someone who prefers trail running, then you need a shoe that will accommodate it.

The ASICS Women’s GEL-Venture 5 Running Shoe is the perfect contender – built to be significantly tougher and more rugged than your average running model.

Running frequently or for extended periods of time will put any type of footwear through a lot of stress, though these are made to hold up well against consistent abrasion.

Coming in a variation of unique color schemes, you’ll get options like Pistachio, Diva Pink, Aqua Mint, and many more. Aside from that, they’re easy to see on the trail, making visibility high.

The upper is comprised of 100% synthetic materials, which ensure proper airflow and stretchiness while still offering structure and support. Perfect for use on trails, slippery roads, camping, rain, and more, you don’t have to be delicate with these.

This wouldn’t be possible without the tough outsole made to resist against abuse, coming with multi-surface traction, too. We were impressed when we used them on rocky and uneven surfaces as the rubber outsole stays looking brand new!

To protect against these hard and occasionally sharp objects is the GEL cushioning system and removable foam sockliner. The two together form a wonderfully padded surface for your foot to land which absorbs almost all impact, leaving your joints feeling fatigue-free.

Adidas Women’s Adizero Boston 7 Running Shoe at a Glance:

  • Uppers: Mesh/Synthetic
  • Sizes: 4.5 – 12
  • Colors: 6
  • Features: Very lightweight, Microfit design

Adidas has been and is an enormous brand famous for the trendy, fashion-forward, high-performing products they deliver and their Adizero Boston 7 Running Shoes are exemplary of that.

Despite having so many incredible options to choose from, this one still represents their best distance running shoes.

Don’t let first impressions fool you – they may be soft to the touch but these are made to last. Coming in 6 different colorways, you’ll get classic colors like Grey, Hi-Res Aqua, Clear Mint, Shock Red, and more.

Weighing in at a mere 7 ounces, this lightweight pair will keep you quick on your feet, making them perfect for long-distance running.

You won’t feel lugged down, even towards the end of your run. Working well on both firm or soft ground, the versatile model is ideal for road running or indoor tracks, etcetera.

When running for long periods of time, your feet are bound to get hot and sweaty. That’s why we loved the mesh uppers – offering an airiness and breathability hard to find. The textile upper helps you run even faster and more efficiently, thanks to the perfect fit it provides.

With the brand’s signature Boost cushioning built in, you’ll experience excellent energy transfer while absorbing the shock so your joints don’t have to. This will reduce the feeling of fatigue, allowing you to run harder and longer.

A Stretchweb outsole is perfect for longevity, looking as good as new after each run. The Continental Rubber ensures a great amount of grip on most surfaces, though we can’t say we’d recommend them for heavy trail use.

HOKA ONE ONE Women’s Arahi 2 Running Shoe at a Glance:

  • Uppers: Fabric
  • Sizes: 5.5 – 11
  • Colors: 5
  • Features: Helps with stability, EVA foam rear wrap

If you’re looking for high levels of stability while still keeping things light, nothing can beat the Women’s HOKA ONE Arahi 2 Running Shoe.

If you tend to overpronate, this unique model will keep you from being wobbly or unsure of your stride. Let’s take a look at all the other amazing features it comes packed with!

Aside from functionality, the best women’s long distance running shoes are some of the most visually captivating out there.

Coming in colorways like Liberty/Fuchsia, Aquifer/Sea Angel, Steel/Gray Metal and more, there’s bound to be at least one to suit your tastes.

To help take off some weight, the tight-knit mesh uppers are thin yet offer a great amount of protection and structure.

Moreover, they’re very breathable and will keep your feet dry and cool from beginning to end. The only thing we’d recommend against is using them in the rain or moisture as it doesn’t protect against it.

Let’s go back to the functionality, though. Once you’ve laced them up, you can see how the midsole moves you forward close to the heel.

As the rear/heel section of the shoe is a bit roomier than most models, it may be a bit too much if your feet are particularly narrow. However, if you lace them up even tighter, the fit should be just fine for you.

The sole features a long-lasting rubber while EVA foam wraps around the back portion of the foot, further aiding in impact absorption.

Under Armour Women’s Micro G Pursuit Running Shoe at a Glance:

  • Uppers: Fabric
  • Sizes: 5 – 13
  • Colors: 12
  • Features: Foam padding around ankle, Micro G foam midsole

Lastly, we have the Under Armour Women’s Micro G Pursuit Running Shoe. We all know Under Armour as one of the world’s best, and the preferred clothing manufacturer of various pro sports teams.

This model holds up to that supreme level of quality in regard to both style and performance. As far as looks go, these are some of the most stylish you’re going to find for long distances.

First off, they come in a good selection of shades, with most leaning towards blacks and greys but definitely able to be used in casual and athletic settings.

Made of synthetic mesh, the uppers are very soft yet just thick enough to provide protection against debris you may encounter along your run.

They are very lightweight, however, ensuring proper airflow throughout the foot. Offering a well-balanced blend of flexibility and cushioning, you’ll never want to take them off!

Additional foam padding is found around the ankle collar and under the tongue to create a comfy home for your feet, eliminating the risk of blisters and chafing.

In the midsole is a one-piece Micro G foam, too, to absorb impact and make landings less stressful on your body.

How to Choose the Best Long Distance Running Shoes – Buying Guide

Best Women's Long Distance Running Shoes

Even if you’re an experienced long distance or marathon runner, it never hurts to look into an even better shoe for you and your athletic requirements.

No matter what experience level you find yourself in, it’s important to know which features to look for and why. Each of our bodies is different, along with the environment we’re running in, and our own personal preferences.

That’s why we’ve decided to take it upon ourselves to create the following in-depth buying guide. This guide will hopefully answer any questions or doubts you may have, leading you to select the best pair of shoes for you and your goals.

Breathability

We’ve all unfortunately had the experience of our feet being sweaty and muggy. It’s an instantly uncomfortable feeling that not only increases the risk of creating hot spots, but can also make the fit “off”.

With that being said, it’s extremely important that your feet stay dry and comfortable from the first to the last step of your run.

The easiest way to do this is to opt for an upper comprised of mesh, or a model that has well-located holes to let moisture and heat escape. This also helps to prevent foul odors and lowers the chance of bacteria growing.

Foot Type

Each one of us has a foot “type”. If you don’t know what yours is, then you may want to keep on reading. If you are already experiencing some type of foot issues or discomfort, it’s a smart idea to first talk with a podiatrist or general physician before you decide on a pair of new shoes.

If you don’t and select the wrong type for your foot type, they can not only cause pain, but injury if you’re not careful. Regardless, it’s important to purchase the shoes that suit your arches best.

Normal

This is what most runners are going to have, so you can expect most shoes are going to fit you well. The arches are of medium height, and require very little arch support.

Flat Feet

That’s not to say a good portion of runners don’t have flat feet. In fact, it’s pretty common! This term refers to the fact that you either have a very small or no arch, which can be painful and potentially dangerous without correct support. This can also cause overpronation oftentimes, when your feet roll inwards while running. If this is your situation, opt for a model that offers extra support and cushioning.

High Arches

High arches probably demand the most care of the group, as running can cause high arches to fall over time. This means that you need extra arch support, cushion to absorb shock, and high flexibility in the forefoot

Protection

If we were just to go off of breathability, you would probably think that any shoe with a mesh upper is a solid option. While mesh is definitely desirable in a long distance running shoe, there needs to be a balance between breathability and protection.

If the shoes are just comprised of a thinner mesh, then they’re going to make your feet vulnerable to bruising and even potential injury. However, there are also different types of mesh. The material in the aforementioned shoes is generally much more tough, and more tightly knit to offer more structure and support.

You don’t want them to be too tight or restrictive, though not so loose that pebbles or other debris find their way inside, also creating a more stable/comfy environment for you. A reinforced toe will keep your toes safe from unsuspecting rocks or logs, and solid soles will prevent any poking and puncturing.

As you will most likely end up encountering water in some way or another, it’s important you also look for those resistant to moisture.

Flexibility

Flexibility is absolutely necessary in any running shoe, but even more so when you’re running for long periods of time. If you don’t have adequate flex to them, they won’t allow you to run with complete confidence and precision, which will negatively affect your gait and cause you to spend more energy than necessary. The more flexible it is, the more naturally your feet will move.

Traction

Long distance running often requires you to run on a variety of different surfaces, so it’s important to be prepared for anything that you may encounter. Of course, if you’re just planning on running indoors or on roads you won’t need to worry about coming across twigs and rocks.

If you’re running on the trails exclusively, you won’t need a ton of grip to keep you upright on slippery surfaces (most likely).

However, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Look for deep treads, which are ideal for just about any type of running environment which will keep you on your feet, preventing you from becoming unbalanced and possibly falling.

Cushioning

Cushioning in shoes is so easy to do wrong and difficult to do right, yet the models on are guide are the exceptions. Proper cushioning involves a very delicate balance of materials to bring you a shoe that offers comfort, protection, and support.

More cushioning doesn’t equate to being better, and can even create a shoe that lugs you down and makes your gait unnecessarily strained. You want a certain amount of strength and support to keep you quick on your feet, without being clunky.

If you’re running on a hard surface, you may notice that you’re striking quite hard on your heels, so extra light EVA foam will help your gait and absorb impact to keep you feeling fresh.

Price

How much are you willing to spend on a good pair of women’s long distance running shoes? While we know we have excellent options no matter what your budget is, if you go up in price it’s not an absolute guarantee on better quality, but many times this is the case.

You can expect the materials to be more comfortable and durable when you run more frequently or for longer. Many times they also look more aesthetically pleasing.

FAQs About Women’s Long Distance Running Shoes

Q: What kind of shoes do long distance runners wear?

A: You want a pair that offers enough support and cushion so that your feet aren’t fatigued early on. In addition, the fit should be snug but never too tight nor loose. The shoe should absorb impact and transfer energy well so you are quick on your feet and prepared for anything.

Q: When should I change running shoes?

A: After you’ve used them to run anywhere between 300 to 500 miles, it’s necessary to replace your shoes. Once you reach this number, they’re not going to provide you with the same level of support and protection that they would originally due to the materials being compressed and breaking down with consistent use and subjection to the elements.

Q: Do long distance running shoes lose cushioning?

A: Unfortunately, yes, they do. They are being put through great amounts of stress, but eventually they can lose their efficacy in absorbing shock as well as a general comfort offered.

Q: How many pairs of running shoes should I have?

A: At the very least, you should have two pairs of running shoes so you can replace and rotate them if you need to. This will increase the longevity of your shoes’ life as well!

Q: How do you tell when running shoes are worn out?

A: The treads on the soles start showing wear and the cushion is much less soft and supportive than they used to be. Unfortunately running shoes can be worn out before these tell tail signs so it’s best to replace them every 300 miles or so.

Tips For Choosing Women’s Long Distance Running Shoes

#1: Make sure you select the right size for your feet.

This is quite possibly the most important tip. If you don’t have the right size, it doesn’t matter if it’s the best running shoe ever made. If you’re unsure of a certain manufacturer’s fit then don’t hesitate to look at their site as they’ll have the sizing guides for you to look at.

#2: Remember to regularly maintain your shoes.

Even if you’re running in a “clean” area like in a gym or on a track, you still want to clean them regularly. They can easily accumulate dust and other undesirables which can more rapidly break down the shoe.

#3: Get your gait tested if you can.

This will ensure that there are no questions about the type of feet you have and you’ll also receive some valuable tips to how you can run more efficiently and faster.

Summary

Now that you are practically an expert in all things that make a good pair of long distance running shoes, which pair is the right one for you and your athletic goals? No matter which model you choose, you can rest assured knowing that you’re receiving one of the best models on the market today.

However, the most important thing is you selecting the design which functions best according to your environment, foot type, tendencies, and more. We hope that our guide has helped you achieve exactly that. Thanks for tuning in and we’ll see you again soon. Happy running!
