Women’s HIIT Shoe Reviews

To start things off, we have the Reebok Women’s HIIT Tr Cross Trainer. Reebok is one of the most popular brands of athletic shoes out there, so it comes as no surprise that this one tops our list.

If you’re partaking in HIIT, you need footwear that’s reliable, comfortable, and high-performing, which is exactly what you’ll find here.

Let’s take a look at the visual aesthetics first as that’s what is most obvious.

You get your choice of 5 different colorways – all of which are very trendy and eye-catching.

Black/Vivid Orange/Fluid Blue, Orange Flare/Black, Luminous Lilac/Dark Orchid, and more are all very unique but still work with anything you have going on in your workout wardrobe.

They’re much more than look, though. We love the mesh upper which allows for excellent flexibility and air flow necessary for the varied movements incorporated in HIIT work.

The pillow around the collar is extremely comfortable, eliminating the risk of chafing while creating a secure fit.

Light EVA foam cushioning helps to reduce the impact during things like jump squats, while the flexible outsole moves with you and offers a grip to ensure you stay on your feet no matter what the surface you’re working on may be.

As they are so lightweight, you’ll notice that they don’t weigh you down during rapid movements like many traditional athletic shoes would.

We do recommend that you go half a size down however, as they tend to run a little big and you probably aren’t going to wear very thick socks.

Under Armour is a brand that needs no introduction, seeing as it outfits countless professional sports teams around the world. The level of quality they bring to the table is unmatched, and their style is quite interesting as well.

The Under Armour Women’s Charged Assert 8 Running Shoe is exemplary of all that, designed to work for the beginning athlete to the pro.

Coming in over a dozen different color options, they each have a kind of retro look to them, ensuring there’s something that suits your tastes as well.

The uppers are made of polyester and elastane, offering the perfect balance of durability and stretchiness to move with your feet instead of against them.

You’ll find adequate mesh on both sides of the shoe, letting air flow in and out freely. You’ll find some leather overlays which add stability and only lengthen their lifespan.

If you have neutral arches, you’re going to love these as they’re made for athletes who need flexibility along with a nice amount of cushioning. This pair are incredibly lightweight which is also necessary for HIIT.

To create good energy transfer, you’ll find charged cushioning in the midsoles. Through the use of compression molded foam, responsiveness and longevity are built in here, while helping to reduce shock from high impact exercises.

The solid rubber outsole covers high-impact zones to only help with this task while still remaining light enough for you to move around quickly and easily.

The New Balance Women’s FuelCore Nergize V1s may have been on the market for a few years now, but they’re still doing some serious damage for relentless HIIT athletes.

Incredible comfort, versatility, and fashion are melded together in one premium pair of shoes that you’re sure to never want to take off.

As they’re great for beginner athletes and just walking around town, that’s pretty feasible too!

Made from 100% synthetic materials, the uppers are lightweight with tons of mesh to keep your feet cool and dry.

The trendy bootie design is sure to turn some heads and go well with all your favorite gym outfits and come in dozens of colors that you’re sure to love too.

The sleek, supportive engineering won’t get in the way nor make you feel weighed down so you can jump, run, and everything in between with ease.

As the shoes are designed as slip-ons, they’re easy to take on and off. However, you’ll notice there are also laces. Those are there so you can tighten or loosen up the uppers based on how your feet are feeling.

When we stand or workout for extended periods of time, our feet tend to swell. In these cases you’ll be able to adjust accordingly without feeling any discomfort.

Moving onto the midsole, you’ll find the brand’s signature REVlite cushioning which offers comfort and high responsiveness while still keeping things light. If you’re someone who pronates or just needs added stability, these will likely do you well.

Moreover, you get the NB Memory Sole Comfort Insert which feels luxurious but perfect for sporting activities. Even if you wanted to wear these kicks all day long, you could do so without feeling tired or restricted.

All in all, it’s hard to find a higher performing HIIT shoe for this price in these trendsetters.

Back again with yet again another pair of Reeboks, but this time with the original version of the HIIT Training Shoe Cross Trainer.

The style is similar, but you do get a few more color options – each of which are fashionable and mostly neutral to match anything you have in your closet.

The lightweight pair are excellent choices not only in terms of fashion but performance as well.

If you have a need for speed, then you’ll really appreciate these HIIT shoes. They’re nice and airy feeling and also allow for excellent airflow so even when you’re drenched in sweat your feet won’t feel all muggy.

You’ll see that same familiar full-collar cushioning like we did on the first Reebok HIIT model listed as our #1 on this guide, creating a snug but never uncomfortable fit.

When you’re doing burpees, box jumps and so on you need shoes that stay close to your feet and aren’t wiggling around as this can cause instability which can be dangerous.

Speaking of jumping around, the lightweight EVA foam cushioning will take care of the impact. It reduces fatigue so you can go harder and really make the most out of your workout, bringing results quicker.

While the Ryka Women’s Influence Cross Training Shoe has risen to become one of the most popular shoes for Zumba, they’re also perfect for HIIT.

Why? Because they provide an incredible amount of grip needed to keep you securely on your feet while offering enough flexibility for all those dance moves and box jumps you can muster.

Ryka is a brand which makes every one of their models designed to suit women’s bodies to accommodate differently shaped hips, which can result in a tendency to over-pronate.

Expand To See More

Taking this into consideration, the Ryka design feature a narrower heel, wider forefoot, and a sturdy foot bed to help provide extra stability and balance overpronation out.

The colorways they have to offer aren’t quite as trendy as some of the others on our guide, but they’re definitely cute and sporty.

Their colors are known to be more unique, with shades like Zuma Pink, Diver Blue, Pink, Forge Grey, Sugar Plum, Vivid Aqua, and many more.

The synthetic and mesh uppers are lightweight and airy to keep you light on your feet, cool, and dry. The padded collar and tongue will help prevent chafing or digging into your skin, making them great for all kinds of workouts.

The rubber sole offers a sturdy grip, even on slippery gym floors, hardwood, and more. On the bottom, you’ll find pivot points, which help you to swivel about and move with precision.

This is only boosted by the traction sole.  The dual density foam midsole with high-impact N-Gage EVA energy offers shape retention and cushioning to break impact too.

Nearing the end of our guide, we bring you the Under Armour Breathe Trainer Sneaker. Whether you’re brand-new to HIIT or just need a new pair of sneakers to do so, then you’re in the right place.

Thanks to the ingenious design by this top-ranking brand, they could very well help you jump higher, land softer, and overall get the workout and results you’ve been looking for.

First off, we will say that this pair does run a bit small so you may want to consider going up half a size. These go anywhere from size 5 to 12 so you should be able to find just the right size for your feet.

Coming in 10 different shades, we found these to be some of the best-looking currently available. Overcrast Gray, Moss Green, Black/Metallic Steel, After Burn/Flushed Pink, Metallic Faded Gold, and more are very unique but also look great.

The uppers are comprised of 100% textile along with synthetic materials to offer softness, breathability, stretchiness and durability combined. These tend to fit snugly against the foot, but never so tight that they cause chafing or discomfort.

The stretchy uppers slip on and off quickly for when you’re in a hurry, but always stay put while working out. You’ll also find elastic lacing systems, though these are more just to provide an even more customized fit.

You’ll find a synthetic heel counter which helps keep you steady on your feet while adding additional support to reduce the shock that comes from HIIT workouts most times.

Lastly, a die-cut, full-length EVA sock liner is there to increase the level of comfort, even during long, grueling sessions.

Reebok has had their CrossFit Nanos on the market for years, but their 8th iteration is really something special.

Originally made for crossfit (as you can probably deduce from the name), they’re designed to hold up to the most intense workouts out there while providing comfort, strength, and support.

When applied to HIIT situations, you’ll see how you fly through your workouts, focusing solely on the task at hand.

One of the features that stands out most is the completely separate bootie. The reason for this construction is to offer you as much freedom as possible in your movements.

In fact, you can even wear them completely on their own and feel great. To keep them attached to the rest of the shoe, you’ll find a small connective piece between the heels.

Another fan favorite feature is their Flexweave material which is very breathable, flexible, yet durable. You can climb ropes, jump, lunge, etc. without worrying about fraying or ripping. Again, as they’re separate from the bootie, you don’t have to worry about it feeling tight against you.

The sole, in contrast, is quite hard and supportive. The plastic heel cup offers a reliable base for all kinds of movements while the bottoms of the soles have a wavey kind of material that is super grippy on all surfaces.

All of these aspects combined make you feel great during squats, box jumps, power cleans, and other movements that require you to root up with a lot of power through the feet and lower body.

How to Choose the Best HIIT Shoes – Buying Guide

Best HIIT Shoes

After reading through all of our detailed reviews, have you decided which are the best High-Intensity Interval Training shoes for you and your needs? We know that it can be hard to narrow things down, especially if you’re unsure of which features to look for.

That’s why we’ve decided to take it upon ourselves to write up a user-friendly buying guide, below. This guide will take you through each feature to consider when choosing your shoes, to ensure you’re as successful as possible.

Uppers

While mesh is definitely a great choice in terms of light weight and airiness, there needs to be a balance between breathability and protection. If the uppers are comprised of pure mesh, then they won’t properly protect your feet during HIIT workouts.

You want some reinforcement in the form of synthetic, harder materials that will add a bit of stucture and durability. After all, rope climbs, rubbing your shoes against the gym floor, boxes, etc. can wear out softer materials quickly if they aren’t made properly.

Remember that there are also different types of mesh. The material in the shoes  above is significantly longer lasting, and more tightly knit to create structure and support. A reinforced toe will keep toes safe the floor, hitting your toes during box jumps, against walls, etc.

Motion Control

Motion control is crucial when it comes to high intensity workouts, as we’re making quick movements. You don’t want to sprain an ankle or tweak something just because your shoes didn’t offer enough motion control, right?

Different manufacturers and models will come with different types of technology to combat overpronation/rolling inward.

Also make sure that the heel cup is nice and solid, preventing your heel from slipping around as you move. This is why we prefer bootie styles, as they form to the foot so there’s no wiggling around or excess space.

Laces/Slip-Ons

What’s your favorite? While most of us are most accustomed to lace-up systems, you don’t have to choose between them now. Many of the best HIIT sneakers on the market today have slip-on designs which offer a snug but never uncomfortable fit.

This creates a more intuitive, natural feeling instead of feeling like you’re being lugged down by your bulky kicks. However, many of these slip-ons also have laces? Why? To help create an even more custom fit.

For example, at the beginning of your workout, you may want them extra-tight. As you continue to work, your feet are likely going to swell so you’ll need to let the laces up a bit.

If you didn’t have the laces there, you’d likely experience moments where your shoes were either too tight or too loose and we want to avoid both of those scenarios.

Sockliner

Not every model is going to have a nice sockliner, as these are more common in traditional running shoes. They come with a removable pad of foam inside the shoe which cushions your feet, and adjusts to contour to the individual shape of them. This will offer a solid amount of arch support and overall make them more comfortable.

Midsole

Get yourself a pair of shoes with a nice lightweight EVA midsole (or comparative alternative). EVA is an excellent material for HIIT shoes as it weighs practically nothing yet provides a ton of support and comfort.

The midsole will help absorb the brunt of the impact when you’re running and jumping around. This not only helps keep your feet and joints feeling good, but overall will create better energy transfer to keep you light on your feet and fatigue minimal.

Sole

The sole of the HIIT shoe is quite possibly the most important, as it is the part which makes contact with the gym floor, ground, etc. Almost every single model on our guide have soles made of a durable rubber material.

Rubber is inexpensive, incredibly durable, and even offers a bit of energy transfer due to its natural “bounciness”. Not only that, but they’re naturally pretty grippy which we need on gym flooring and other slippery surfaces.

On top of that, you want to look for soles with deep grooves or texture on the bottom to help your feet flex naturally but also to keep you stable.

Appearance

Of course, you want your shoes to look good don’t you? Try to select a model that suits your individual personality and tastes. Due to the wide array of colorways that almost every model offers, along with the different looks each one features, you’re sure to find just the thing for you.

Price

How much are you comfortable with paying for a pair of the best women’s HIIT shoes on Amazon? Regardless of the kind of budget you’ve set for yourself, we’re sure that we have at least one great pair for you and your requirements. There’s a common misconception that the more you spend, the better the shoe.

This isn’t always the case, but if you do spend a bit more, you may get more durable materials. It all really comes down to that particular model and brand, though, as there are tons of affordable options that perform better than shoes twice the cost.

FAQs About HIIT Shoes

Q: Can I wear running shoes for HIIT?

A: While you technically could, we definitely don’t recommend it. Running shoes are generally designed for forward movements and you propelling yourself off in just one plane. HIIT involves moving forwards, backwards, side-to-side, diagonally, and even up and down!

For HIIT then, you need a shoe that’s going to keep you locked in snugly no matter where or how you move. You need a stable base for all of these movements, and many running shoes offer a kind of “roll”.

Q: How many times per week should I do HIIT?

A: This all depends on your current experience and fitness level. If you’re already used to doing a lot of high energy workouts, you’d probably be great with 3-4 per week. However, if you’re just starting out, try to keep it to a maximum of 1-2 times per week with at least 24 hours of rest in-between. You don’t want to injure yourself, and you should make sure you give your body enough time to recover.

Q: Is cross training the same as HIIT?

A: It is not! While cross training could include certain elements of HIIT, HIIT is always based on intervals and done at an incredibly intense pace that cross training does not typically involve.

Q: Is it better to do HIIT in the morning or evening?

A: What’s most important is that you keep to a schedule and do it at around the same time every day or night. However, endorphins will stick around for hours after you work out so it could end up affecting your sleep if you do it too close to bedtime. With that being said, you’ll likely be better off doing HIIT in the morning.

Tips For Choosing HIIT Shoes

#1: Try to find a shoe that has padding around the collar.

Padding around the collar and tongue will help to prevent any digging into your skin/foot as well as help to prevent chafing. This is important, especially when you’re doing repetitive exercises.

#2: Make sure you have enough shock absorption.

This will be found in any high-quality sock liner with a nice amount of cushion, along with an EVA midsole to help absorb impact. This makes for a more comfortable workout that won’t place too much stress on your feet and joints. Are feet are made up of many, tiny bones and tendons that can easily become damaged if you don’t wear the right shoes.

#3: Take off your shoes as soon as you’re done using them.

This means that if you’re going to a gym to work out, you change them out when you get to the locker room or your vehicle. This keeps them lasting longer and will reduce the growth of bacteria.
